An independent UK site for home and hybrid workers. We compare standing desks, office chairs, keyboards and monitor stands on the specs that decide comfort, like height ranges and lumbar adjustment, with honest pros and cons.
The basics from the HSE's display screen equipment (DSE) guidance, and the checks we use when judging a product.
Thighs roughly level, feet flat on the floor. If the desk is too high for that, a footrest is cheaper than a new desk.
Top of the screen at or just below eye level, an arm's length away. On a laptop, raise it and add a separate keyboard and mouse.
Elbows by your sides at around 90 degrees, wrists straight. Split keyboards and vertical mice help with wrist pain.
A standing desk is for changing position. Alternate sitting and standing, and take short breaks from the screen.
Work out your heights with the desk height calculator. General guidance, not medical advice: if pain carries on, speak to your GP or a physiotherapist.
Only products you can buy from UK retailers. We look at adjustability, build and warranty, the complaints buyers keep repeating, and value against similar products at the same price.
DeskMinded is reader-supported. We may earn a commission on purchases through our links, at no extra cost to you, and nothing is listed or ranked for payment.
